Roots to Leisure Gardening

For those amateur and keen gardeners looking to increase their skills and knowledge and gain an accredited qualification (optional) a wide variety of gardening subjects will be studied.

There will an opportunity to study the following subjects:

  • Garden Maintenance
  • Turf Care
  • Seed/Vegetative Propagation
  • Garden Design
  • Plant Identification
  • Vegetable Gardening
  • Hard Landscape Gardening
  • Landscape Gardening

These courses will involve blended practical outdoor work and some indoor theory work and lectures. Some of the assessments will be practical, some will be written. All qualifications will be accredited by ABC awards. The levels of these courses will start from L1 reaching up to L2.

This course is designed for those in employment but looking for a career change without having to give up paid employment or those interested in gardening as a hobby. Some work at home will need to be carried out; whether this is learning plant names, researching principles or practising gardening skills within an allotment or garden situation. The hours of study will be up to two evenings per month and 1 Saturday per month with the option of using the facilities for self study and practice of practical skills on selected Wednesdays. Candidates will be able to work towards L1 in the (first year) and L2 qualifications (optional) within horticulture.
